Privacy Policy

1. Who this app is for

StoryVeda is designed for parents and families with children aged 2–12. The app is used by parents (account holders) on behalf of their children. We do not allow children to create accounts directly. All accounts are parent accounts. StoryVeda is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. This policy applies to both, and to thestoryveda.com.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

Parent account information

• Name
• Email address
• Mobile phone number, used for OTP authentication
• Google account information, if you sign in with Google

Child profile information, entered by the parent

• Child's name
• Child's age
• Child's gender
• Child's interests, for example animals, space or magic
• Child's preferred language
• Child's name phonetic pronunciation (optional)
• Favourite characters and moral preferences
• Pet names and family member names (optional)

Voice recordings (optional)

If you create a personalised narrator voice, your recording is transmitted to ElevenLabs for voice synthesis. It is never shared with other users.

Voice recordings are treated as sensitive biometric information. They are stored encrypted, used solely to create narration for your own family, never used to train AI models, never shared with third parties for their own use, and can be deleted by you at any time in the app.

Family narrations (Apno ki Awaaz). A parent may invite a family member to record a story through a private web link. The recording is stored privately, is accessible only to that parent's account, is never made public or used for any other family, and can be deleted by the parent at any time from inside the app. The invite link expires automatically.

Voice search

Voice search clips are processed only to find a story and are never stored. The clip is sent to Sarvam AI to be converted to text so the search can run, and is discarded immediately afterwards. It is not saved to your account, not used to train AI models, and never used to identify anyone.

3. How we use your information

4. Third-party service providers

We use PostHog to understand how StoryVeda is used. We want to be precise about what that means, because it works differently on the website and in the app.

On the website, PostHog counts page views and shows us which pages parents read. Session recording and click tracking are switched off, and no profile is created for a visitor who is only browsing. Children do not use the website.

In the app, we record a short, fixed list of activity events — for example, that a story was opened or finished. There is no analytics or advertising software inside the app itself. These events are sent from our own servers, and they pass through a filter before they leave us, so that nothing about your child travels with them. No child’s name, no date of birth, no recording and no story text is ever included. Events are linked to the parent’s account and nothing else.

IP addresses are discarded and never stored — on the website and in the app alike.

We do not share your data with any other third parties.

5. Children's privacy

• All accounts are parent accounts. Children do not create accounts.
• Child profile data is stored only for personalisation. It is not shared with other users and is not used for advertising.
• We do not collect data directly from children.
• We do not show advertising.
• We do not transmit the Android Advertising ID (AAID). On iOS we do not access the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and we do not use App Tracking Transparency, because we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. StoryVeda contains no advertising.

If you believe a child's data has been collected inadvertently, write to privacy@thestoryveda.com and we will remove it.

For families in the United States: StoryVeda operates in line with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as amended effective 2026. All child information is collected with the consent of a parent, who creates and controls the account. We share personal information only with the service providers listed in this policy, strictly so they can perform services integral to StoryVeda's operation (such as generating and narrating your stories) — we do not disclose children's personal information to any third party for that party's own purposes, including advertising. Because of this, consenting to StoryVeda's collection does not involve consenting to any non-integral third-party disclosure. Parents may review, correct, or delete their child's information at any time (see Your Rights).

6. AI-generated content

• Stories are generated by OpenAI's GPT-4 model.
• Illustrations are generated by Google Imagen.
• Narrations are generated by ElevenLabs.
• All AI-generated content is filtered to ensure it is age-appropriate.

If anything ever feels wrong for your child, use the flag button in the app. A person reads every report. See also our child safety page.

7. Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy — providing your family's bedtime-story service — and never indefinitely. If an account has not been signed into for 24 months, we email the parent and delete the account and all associated data 30 days later unless the parent signs in.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion — delete your account and all associated data
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent — stop using the service at any time

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, you may also nominate a person to exercise these rights on your behalf.

9. Data security

• Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
• Supabase Row Level Security, so one family cannot read another's data
• OTP-based phone verification and Google Sign-In
• A 2-device login limit

We maintain a written data retention and information security policy, reviewed at least annually, covering what we collect, how long we keep it, and who can access it.

10. Account deletion

When you delete your account:

• All stories, child profiles, listening history, favourites and voice recordings are permanently deleted
• Cover images are deleted from cloud storage
• Your Supabase authentication account is deleted

11. Advertising

The StoryVeda app contains no advertisements, no advertising SDKs and no third-party advertising networks. Nothing your child does inside the app is used for advertising, and no advertising company receives your child’s data.

Our marketing website is different, and we want to be straightforward about it. The website is written for parents rather than children, and it uses the Meta Pixel so we can measure how our own advertisements perform — for example, how many of the people who saw one of our advertisements went on to visit the website. The Meta Pixel is present on the website only. It is not in the app.

We do not sell your data.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will tell you by in-app notification, and by email where we have your address. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.

15. Cookies and your choice

Our website asks before it sets any advertising cookie. If you accept, the Meta Pixel tells us whether people who saw one of our adverts went on to visit the site. If you decline, it never loads. You can change your mind at any time using the button below.

Two things run without asking, because neither builds a profile of you: PostHog counts page views with session recording and click tracking switched off and no profile created for a browsing visitor, and Vercel counts visits without cookies. IP addresses are discarded in both cases.

The StoryVeda app sets no advertising cookies at all.
