Every StoryVeda story can be heard in Telugu — and the shelf your child sees is the whole shelf, not a shorter Telugu one.

Read it on screen in తెలుగు script, or turn the phone over and let your child listen in the dark. Personalised stories carry your child's own name, said the way it is said at home rather than the way the English spelling suggests.

Nothing here is trying to keep your child on the screen. No adverts, no next video queued up, no reason for the phone to stay in the room once the story has finished.

Nothing here is waiting on a translator.

The usual arrangement is a small Telugu section that fills up slowly and always trails the English one. StoryVeda does not have a Telugu section. Set Telugu on your child's profile, press play, and the narration is made for that story then and there — about half a minute, roughly as long as it takes to find the right blanket — after which it runs to the end without stopping.

So the shelf is never short. Panchatantra and folk tales, world classics, festivals, science, extraordinary women, gods when they were small — every one of them is in Telugu, because they are made in Telugu the moment you ask for them.

Telugu at bedtime is usually the first thing to go when a family lives away from home — not by any decision, just by default. Half an hour a night, inside a story the child asked for, holds on to it more quietly than lessons ever did.
